HISTORY

The Story of Hotel Merikruunu – In the Heart of the Archipelago Since 1930

Welcome to a place where history breathes and memories are made. Hotel Merikruunu is more than just a hotel – it is a living part of the cultural heritage of Kimitoön’s stunning archipelago.

It all began in 1930, when Edith and Oskar Wikström opened Dragsfjärd Pensionat by the peaceful shores of Kirjais. The guesthouse quickly became a cherished retreat for professors, teachers, and artists, offering peaceful summer holidays in elegant surroundings. At the time, luxury meant electric lighting, a radio, a gramophone, and a private car garage – all considered state-of-the-art in the 1930s.

Over the decades, the pensionat maintained its warm and welcoming spirit. Many guests returned year after year, and families created traditions that lasted for generations.

In 2020, a new chapter began. The historic building was carefully renovated, and the hotel was reborn as Hotel Merikruunu. Rooms were refurbished, restaurant services were elevated, and new relaxation experiences were introduced – including the Strandbad beach sauna and a modern Bubbelbad sauna with hot tub.

The hotel has since expanded into Merikruunu Archipelago Village, a modern holiday concept offering Stellar Villas. These architecturally designed villas combine Scandinavian elegance with the serenity of the archipelago, all within reach of hotel services and the sense of community.

Today, Hotel Merikruunu brings together history and modern comfort – a destination where the charm of the 1930s lives on while embracing everything a modern guest desires. Quality, tranquility, and authentic coastal atmosphere are at the heart of every visit.
